South Africa-isms

Tomorrow morning Colin + I head off to our next destination… Mauritius! But, I can’t leave South Africa without a post about our new friends and all the new sayings we are going to bring back to the states.

Lloyd + Lisa

Lloyd actually isn’t a new friend. I met him last September in Birmingham at the Green Building Focus Conference. (Lloyd is one of the brains behind Alive 2 Green.) A treat this trip was to see him again and meet his girlfriend, Lisa, who is just fantastic.

SAYINGS

  • Now Now – something that is happening in the immediate present
  • Just Now – something that will happen in the next 24 hours
  • Doo – Us  – I don’t know how to spell this one properly, but it pretty much means loser

Robin, Gordon, Yours Truly, Eric, + Matt

Gordon is Lloyd’s partner in Alive 2 Green and his lovely wife Robin works there as well. (She has given us all kinds of great tips for Mauritius + Dubai.) Matt also presented at the conference and is from Bath, England. (We had quite the international table.) This photo was taken at a delicious Thai dinner, where a highlight was Gordon telling us jokes about Australia involving Bruce + Sheila. USA friends… think of Bruce + Sheila as the white trash cousins  of Bobby + Betty Buckhead (or Johnny + Debbie Dallas).

Lloyd, Lisa, Cara, Megan, Robin, + Colin

Cara, Suraya, + Nelize are also part of this amazing family of friends Colin + I now have at Alive 2 Green. I could go on and on about how fun, smart, and kind they are, but I won’t bore you. We can’t thank them enough for their amazing hospitality this trip and for their friendship. I can’t wait to see them the next time I’m in South Africa.

  1. Hi Megan. Thanks for all the kind and entertaining words about your trip to SA this time. It was wonderful to meet you too and really enjoyed spending time with and getting to know you. We will hopefully all going well see you sooner rather than later. I hope you have been practicing your Zulu that Lloyd recorded for you. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Lisa
